Tax season is off to a strong start, according to Internal Revenue Service, with tax filings for 2014 already ahead of those for the same time period in 2013. Only one week into the official tax season, the IRS has received 27.3 million returns about 20% of the returns they expect to process for the entire tax season.
Some of that volume is attributable to a more compressed tax season. The opening season of tax season was delayed to January 31, 2014, while the deadline for filing, Tax Day, remains April 15, 2014. That just 75 days for the season on par with last year tax season but a far cry from the whopping 102 days we saw in 2012 (the season for e-filing was open for 91 days).
If you combine a shorter tax season with more complicated tax laws, a financially strapped IRS and a fragile economy, you necessarily end up with frustrated taxpayers. Those taxpayers often feel like there nowhere to turn but that not true. The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) might be able to help.

Yesterday, small cap geothermal stock U.S. Geothermal Inc (NYSEMKT: HTM) produced a geyser of a return when it surged 26.79%, meaning its worth taking a closer look at the stock verses the performance of other geothermal stocks like small cap Ormat Technologies, Inc (NYSE: ORA) and mid cap Calpine Corporation (NYSE: CPN).First of all, I should mention there are some other geothermal stocks out there like Alterra Power Corp (CVE: AXY) and Ram Power Corp (TSE: RPG) who have their primary listing on Canadian exchanges with secondary ones on the OTCmeaning they may not be a good deal for American investors or easy to invest in. Second, U.S. Geothermal Inc itself is a good geothermal proxy as itsfocused on developing, owning, and operating clean, sustainable electric power from geothermal energy resources and itsoperating geothermal power projects at Neal Hot Springs, Oregon; San Emidio, Nevada; and Raft River, Idaho plus El Ceibillo, an advanced stage, geothermal prospect located within a 24,710 acre energy rights concession area near Guatemala City, the largest city in Central America.

You got me there
In these specific use cases, Apple simply can't compete. Short of calling up Synaptics (NASDAQ: SYNA ) and incorporating the company's ClearPad technology and its 3D-Touch capabilities, the iPhone will never know when you're about to touch it. Apple used to tap Synaptics for iPod click-wheel sensors, but that was a long time ago. The Samsung design win has given Synaptics a nice pop, since the GS4 is bound to bring in abundant unit volumes. - [By Lisa Levin]

Advisors' Opinion:- [By fedezaldua]
On the other hand, IBM seems to be focusing in its most promising businesses and is willing to sell those segments that are not compelling from a ROIC standpoint. A great example of this is IBM's recent agreement to sell the company's x86 server business to Lenovo (LNVGY) for approximately $2.3 billion ($2.0 billion in cash and $300 million in Lenovo stock) or 0.5 times 2013 sales. On top of the cash and stock price, around 7,500 IBM employees shall be hired by Lenovo.

PCs are much lower margin, but they still contributed about $1 billion in operating profit in 2013. HP is the second-largest PC vendor in the world, and the more focused HP will be better-suited to compete with Lenovo Group (NASDAQOTH: LNVGY ) in the PC market without being tied to the enterprise business.
- [By Analyse360Degree]
In contrast Samsung had a superb time, reporting a YoY growth of 32.0%, as its shipments increased from 8.5 million to 11.2 million in a years time. However, the most impressive growth was displayed by the fast growing Chinese manufacturer Lenovo (LNVGY). The company reported a stupendous growth of 224.3% in tablet shipments and presently accounts for 4.1% of the global tablet market, up from 1.3% in 1Q13. Lenovo has been taking its devices very seriously and seems to be hell-bent on making a mark on the space, clearly understood from its acquisition of Google (GOOG) owned Motorola.
